Pat McGrath was someone I had never heard of, until last year. It was only when Maria from _NoSpringChicken was showing some lipsticks by Pat McGrath on her Instragram stories, and they looked beautiful. Creamy, pigmented matte lipsticks, that applied like a dream.
After I saw Maria’s stories, I was looking on Sephora and came across two sets, each containing three mini lipsticks from Pat’s MatteTrance range, and decided to purchase both. One set is called the ‘Colour Blitz’ and the second set is called the ‘Skin Show’. As you can probably tell from their names, the Colour Blitz contains three bright shades in Elson, Full Panic and Obsessed.

Elson is a blue red. It would be the perfect Christmassy red. It’s stunning. It’s only this year that I started wearing red lipsticks. I’ve always admired them on others, but never had the confidence to wear them myself.
Full Panic is a gorgeous bright-pink. It reminds me a lot of Tom Ford’s Rapturous, but in a matte version. I adore colours like this, especially in the summer months, but they also make a nice alternative to a traditional red around Christmas time.
Obsessed is a gorgeous orangey-red. I don’t have many lipsticks in this, or similar colours, so this is a nice one. It reminds me of Te Amo by Suzanne Jackson, but in a matte version. I love this when I want a bright lip, but don’t want a pink or red, this is a nice change.
I adore colours like this for all year round, especially in Autumn when the seasons are changing and we are coming into Autumn. I think it’s a perfect Autumnal shade.
The ‘Skin Show’ trio contains three neutral colours in the shades Omi, Flesh 3 and 1995.
Omi is described as a ‘mid-tone rose’, it reminds me of Urban Decay’s ‘Backtalk’ lipstick, but with a more matte finish. It’s a beautiful shade and one I love to pair with my Bite Beauty Lipliner in ‘026’, they are the perfect pair.
Flesh 3 is like a deeper version of Omi, it’s not too dark, but it is deeper and slightly more brown in town. It’s another gorgeous shade and one that works particularly well with Soar lipliner by MAC.
1995 is a light nude that is warm toned. This is my favourite of the three. I just adore this shade. It’s a stunner. It reminds me of MAC’s Velvet Teddy, but a deeper version.

Despite being matte, they are very creamy to apply and wear. None of these lipsticks are drying, crumbly or uncomfortable to wear. They don’t emphasise lines on my lips, they don’t give me the ‘butthole’ effect and they don’t crack like some matte lipsticks can do.
They are extremely comfortable to wear and very longwearing, too. I’ve worn these for 6-8 hours, and it’s only around the 7-hour mark that they start to fade, but it’s nothing major and not very noticeable. They last well through eating and drinking, which is a big plus for me.
I love the packaging on them. I think the black and gold is gorgeous together and I love the lips on the casing, too. The casings have a magnetic closure and once closed, you can rest assured that the tops won’t come off.

They are pretty expensive as far as lipsticks go – they are €37 per lipstick, which is crazy expensive. I really love these, but I’m not sure that I could part with that much for one lipstick.
I really wish they would release more mini sets with other colours because they are a great way to be able to try the lipsticks and different colours without splashing out huge money. Plus, if you’re like me and you have a lot of lipsticks but wanted to get a few of these, the mini sets are preferable rather than full size, especially at the price that they are.
From PatMcGrath.com, they are €37 with free shipping and from Selfridges they are €41 Euros and shipping to Ireland is an additional £15 British pounds. Eeek. 😬
In British Pounds they are £35 and shipping to the UK ranges between £5 and £10, so there is a big difference in the shipping prices. Personally, I would use Parcel Motel or Parcel Wizard, because even with their fees, the shipping is still a lot less than paying £15 GBP.
The mini trios I purchased, I bought from Sephora for $25 and for me, they work out better than buying full sized lipsticks, but that’s personal preference.
Have you tried these lipsticks or any other Pat McGrath products? What did you think of them? I would love to hear your thoughts, let me know in the comments!
Thank you for reading, until next time, take care Xx
