Back in July I posted about this mask on my Instagram and in that post, I mentioned that I had used this mask and found it quite gentle on my skin. I’ve used it a few times since and wanted to share my thoughts on it with you in today’s post.
This mask was formulated to help minimise pores, brighten, detoxify and help control oil. I have dry skin so I can’t say what it is like for oil control as it’s not something that is an issue for me. Despite having dry skin, I do like to use masks and treatments to help keep my skin clear and in good nick.
When I first heard of this mask about a year ago it sounded all sorts of wonderful to me. It sounded exactly like something I would love so when Sephora had this as one of their point perks I was delighted that I could *finally* try it; but without having to splash out on a full size.
Because of how thick it is I found it tricky to get an even layer all over and it is best applied with fingers as the warmth of them helps to soften it slightly and smear it out so you get an even layer.
I found when I used a brush it tended to cling to the brush and didn’t transfer from the brush to my face, unlike the GlamGlow Supermud for example, but then the consistencies of each mask are quite different.
It contains a plethora of ingredients, all of which sound wonderful, but some of which could be irritating. Boscia pride themselves on using only natural ingredients, which is great, but natural isn’t always better, in my opinion. Sometimes natural ingredients can be more irritating to our skin. Below is a list of ingredients and their benefits, information is from BoscPreview (opens in a new window)ia.com.
Charcoal Powder – Absorbs excess oil and impurities to exfoliate deep into pores and refine skin’s overall appearance.
Calcium Montmorillonite Clay – First discovered in Montmorillion, France in the 1800s, and considered the premier quality clay containing 67 minerals.
Calcium Montmorillonite Clay absorbs excess oil, impurities, and toxins, gently exfoliates dead skin cells, and minimizes the appearance of pores instantly and over time.
Vitamin C (Ascorbyl Glucoside) – Helps brighten skin tone and minimize fine lines as it defends against free radical damage.
Maritime Pine Bark Extract – Improves skin elasticity and hydration, helping to prevent the first signs of aging. It also provides antioxidant and soothing benefits.
Rosemary Leaf Extract – An effective antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that helps to firm skin and visibly reduce the appearance of pores. It also has natural anti-bacterial benefits and aids in circulation.
Eucalyptus Extract – Provides antiseptic and antibacterial benefits, calms inflammation, and leaves skin invigorated.
Boscia’s Proprietary Botanical Blend – Jojoba Leaf helps to prevent free radical damage while nourishing the skin and Willow Herb helps to calm skin inflammation and reduce visible redness and irritation.
Once the mask was on it took about 30-35 for it to fully dry down to a matte, but not uncomfortable finish. When the mask was drying you could see little spots where it was working.
It left my skin feeling soft, smooth and clean. In regards to minimising pores; it did make a *small* difference, but it wasn’t a lasting difference.
It came away from my skin easily. I didn’t experience any irritation or discomfort at any stage. A few reviews I had read said that it had taken off facial hair and was painful to remove, I personally didn’t experience that. It didn’t remove any facial hair for me and it wasn’t painful, sore or uncomfortable to remove.
When I removed the mask, my pores weren’t as bad but after a number of hours they returned to normal. Because pores are genetic I don’t believe there is any product that can shrink or minimise them.
Despite doing plenty of research I still feel a bit lost with all the ingredients and their benefits, but I decided to give the mask a go and I am glad I did.
It would be great for events or special occasions etc. where you want your skin prepped and looking its best. My skin looked great after I used it so I think it’d perfect to use before an event.
I really like this mask and will definitely purchase the full size. Sephora have two sizes available on their website. They have 80 g for $34 USD and 140 g for $49. There is also a pink version of this mask which is currently on sale in Sephora for $22.
Thank you for reading, until next time, take care xx 😊
